No. 17 Lady Vols Gear Up for Road Trip to Houston Invitational

By Cameron Harris, Assistant Media Relations Director Houston Invitational Preview with Rob Patrick KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - The No. 17 University of Tennessee volleyball team will hit the road for the first time in 2010 this weekend as it is set to travel to the Lone Star State for a two-day stay at the University of Houston Invitational. The Lady Volunteers will open the tournament with a 4:30 p.m. ET showdown against Big-12 foe Oklahoma on Fri., Sept. 3, before taking on No. 13 Florida State and the host Cougars the following day at 11 a.m. ET and 8:30 p.m. ET, respectively. Houston Invitational Notes The preseason Southeastern Conference favorite, Tennessee will be looking to continue its success from last weekend when it swept through its competition with ease at the Comcast Lady Vol Classic. The Big Orange christened the season with a three-set triumph over Xavier on Friday night before downing Chattanooga the following morning. It then took out Virginia Tech Saturday evening to claim the tournament title. Senior Nikki Fowler took home MVP honors from the competition for the second straight season, while fellow classmate Leah Hinkey and sophomore DeeDee Harrison joined her on the all-tournament team. Tennessee will be on the road again next weekend when it makes the trek to Athens, Ohio, to compete in a tournament hosted by Ohio University, Sept. 10-11. The Lady Vols will square off with Northwestern, Ohio and Pittsburgh before returning home to open SEC play against South Carolina at 7 p.m. on Fri., Sept. 17.
