Aug. 17, 2010
By Cameron Harris, Assistant Media Relations Director KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - University of Tennessee senior Nikki Fowler and junior Kayla Jeter both claimed spots on the preseason All-Southeastern Conference team on Tuesday as the league announced the squad to launch the upcoming season. Fowler is the only player in the conference to have earned the preseason honor each season since its inception three years ago, while the award is the first for Jeter. The Lady Vols' two selections tie Florida and Kentucky for the most in the league. The 10-player preseason All-SEC team was voted on by the league's coaches and ties were not broken. The squad features five juniors, four seniors and one sophomore. Seven of the selections came from teams in the Eastern Division, while the Western Division had three players named. A two-time American Volleyball Coaches Association Honorable Mention All-American and First Team All-SEC member, Fowler begins the 2010 campaign ranked 12th on Tennessee's career kills chart with 1,256 and needs 526 to break the school record. She also ranks second in attacks per set (9.91), sixth in kills per set (3.57), seventh in digs per set (2.72) and sixth in total attacks (3,488). Jeter was a second-team All-SEC honoree after exploding onto the scene in 2009. The Solon, Ohio, product finished behind only Fowler in the kills department for UT with 353 putaways, good for an average of 2.92 per set. She produced 70 blocks, 97 digs and 10 service aces as well. Tennessee will kick off its 2010 schedule August 27-28, when it hosts the eighth annual Comcast Lady Vol Classic. The Lady Vols will welcome Xavier, Chattanooga and Virginia Tech to the friendly confines of Thompson-Boling Arena for the two-day competition.
