As the decade draws to a close, DyeStat/ESPN RISE is presenting a series of all-decade awards in the sports of high school cross country and track and field. University of Tennessee sophomore 800-meter standout Chanelle Price is among those named to the DyeStat/ESPN Rise All-Decade Girls Track & Field Team. The complete list of award-winners, which includes 2008 U.S. Olympic standouts Allyson Felix and Sanya Richards, can be seen here.

Selections to the All-Decade Track and Field team were made by the DyeStat editorial team, based on performances between the indoor and outdoor seasons of 2000 and the indoor and outdoor seasons of 2009. Athletes were named to the team based on their body of work during those years. XC marks and performances, or post-HS success and accomplishments, were not considered-- simply what an athlete accomplished in the sport of track and field (including indoor, outdoor and summer track) during their high school career.

800m - Chanelle Price
Class of 2008, Easton Area (Easton PA)
It was clear Price (left, photo Vic Sailer, photorun.net) was going to be someone special early on, as she closed out her soph year with a 3rd at USATF Juniors (1st prep) and a USATF triumph - with her 2:06.23 and 2:06.64 800s the top two times of the year. At her indoor state meet, as part of a quadruple victory, she ripped a US#1 2:04.96, #3 all-time - beginning her national record quest. She later won the NIN 800, and added two impressive miles: a 4:50.65 win at New Balance and a 3rd at Millrose. Outdoors, Price ran the first sub-2:03s in 25 years with a 2:02.76 NON triumph and a 2:02.38 at USATF Seniors for 7th, making her #3 all-time. All that earned her the 2007 DyeStat Athlete of the Year. As a senior, Price just missed her indoor PR, but won NIN in 2:05.93. She also had a tremendous U.S. record in the undercover 500 of 1:10.30. Outdoors, she improved her 1600 to 4:46.70, and for 800 ran 2:02.90 at state then finally PR'd again with a 2:01.61 vs. the pros at the Pre Classic for 6th and #2 all-time. She was a disappointed non-qualifier for the Olympic Trials semis in the 800, ending the year on a downer but hardly tarnishing a great career.
