NACAC U23 TRACK & FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Two current University of Tennessee All-Americans and a former Lady Vol standout will be part of the United States contingent as it takes part in the North American, Central American and Caribbean (NACAC) Under 23 Track & Field Championships in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, July 7-9.

UT rising senior Leslie Treherne (Chesapeake, Va.) and rising junior Cleo Tyson (Huntsville, Texas) will run for the Red, White & Blue, while former Big Orange standout Delisa Walton-Floyd will be an assistant on the U.S. women's team coaching staff.

Treherne is slated to run in the first round of the 800 meters on Saturday at 10:55 a.m. Eastern Time., with the final taking place at 5:45 p.m. ET on Sunday. Tyson, meanwhile, is competing in the 100m dash prelims at 5:45 p.m. Friday and would run in the final at 8:20 p.m., should she advance. She is also in the U.S. pool for the 4x100m relay, which will be contested Sunday at 6:20 p.m.

Treherne's 2006 highlights included earning All-America acclaim at NCAA Outdoors for an eighth-place finish in the 800m as well as for assisting UT's fourth-place 4x400m relay. She also charted a second-place outcome in the 800m at the SEC Outdoor Championships and finished eighth at the USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in a career-topping 2:03.38.

Tyson collected six All-America citations this season, bringing her total to 11 in two seasons at Rocky Top. She earned those accolades indoors in the 60m, 200m and 4x400m relay and outdoors in the 100m, 200m and 4x100m relay. She became the UT record-holder in the 100m dash at the NCAA Mideast Regional, running a time of 11.10 seconds in the prelims at Knoxville's Tom Black Track.

Walton-Floyd, meanwhile, competed at Tennessee from 1980 to 1983 and was part of the Lady Vols' 1981 AIAW Outdoor National Championship squad. She was a 12-time All-American during her time in Knoxville and went on to compete in the 1988 Olympic Games for the U.S., fashioning a fifth-place finish in the 800 meters.

Five hundred athletes from 28 countries will compete at Santo Domingo's Panamerican Stadium, taking part in the fourth edition of the NACAC Championships The NACAC Athletic Association's U23 Championships are held every two years in one of the 32 member nations of the North American, Central American and Caribbean Athletic Association, one of six regional athletics associations affiliated with the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF).
