HIGH SCHOOL:

Four-year member of the track & field team at Laurel Highlands High School...Helped that squad win section and county championships all four years of her career...Also ran cross country three seasons and spent time as a member of the cheerleading squad...Tied for eighth at the 2008 Pennsylvania State Indoor Track & Field Championships with an indoor personal-best clearance of 10 feet, six inches in the pole vault...Posted that same height outdoors on several occasions, most recently en route to victory at the 35th Boathouse Sports Baldwin Invitational in May 2008...First cleared 10-6 at that meet in 2007...Placed fifth with a clearance of 10-6 at the 2008 Pepsi National High School Hall of Fame Classic at New York's famed Armory...Three-time county champ in 2005, 2006 and 2008...Participated with the Vertical Assault Pole Vault Club and attended the Reno (Nev.) Pole Vault Summit...Served as editor of the school yearbook and captain of the math team...Winner of National Mathematics Award and member of National Honor Society...

Enrolled in the College of Arts & Sciences...Is interested in majoring in psychology, earning a Ph.D. in sports psych and working with professional athletes...Looks up to world record Russian vaulter Yelena Isinbaeva...Enjoys skiing and sailing as leisure activities...During her pole vaulting career, she has suffered compound fractures to her right arm on two occasions and undergone three reconstructive surgeries...Lauren has an older sister, Katie, 21...Lauren Ashley Molchan was born in Uniontown, Pa., on Feb. 16, 1990...Her parents are David and Deborah Molchan.
