Akeela Bravo                  Class: Sophomore Hometown: Port-of-Spain, Trin. & Tobago High School: St. Francois Girl's College Height: 5-6 Event: Throws

2009: Redshirted indoors but competed throughout the outdoor campaign...Charted several career bests in the discus and hammer as a rookie...Her most recent improvements came at the NAAA/Sagicor Jr. Championships, Trinidad & Tobago's National Championship meet...Won the hammer throw there with a toss of 157-10...Claimed discus crown as well at 145-10...Those victories earned her the right to represent her country at the Pan Am Junior Championships, where she placed seventh in the hammer (145-11) and 10th in the discus (126-7)...Competed in the hammer, discus and shot at SEC Outdoors...Best finish was 13th in the hammer at 156-9...Named to the SEC Freshman Academic Honor Roll.

HIGH SCHOOL: Competed as a member of Burnley Athletic Club...Represented her country in the Carifta Games from 2006 to 2008...Placed fourth in the discus and seventh in the shot put at the 2008 competition with marks of 115-0 and 39-8.50, respectively...Took part in the 2006 Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Junior Championships and earned two medals...Took the silver in the discus at 108-7...Grabbed a bronze in the shot at 38-7.50...Prep career bests included 43-7 3/4 for the shot put and 125-9 for the discus...Was a student council representative and peer mentor at St. Francois Girls College.

PERSONAL: Akeela is enrolled in the College of Arts & Sciences and is interested in pursuing a degree in environmental sciences...Is the second thrower from Trinidad & Tobago to join the program, following in the footsteps of Annie Alexander, who arrived in January 2008...Akeela has five siblings: Anthony, 31; Ikeisha, 28; Ayanna, 24; Wendy, 22; and Nefta Jones, 26...Akeela Precious Bravo was born in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad & Tobago, on Feb. 16, 1990...Parents are Ann Marie Bravo and the late Anthony Jones.
