TENNESSEE: 2008: Rolanda was an outdoor scorer at the conference level as a junior and just missed contributing at the indoor meet...During the indoor campaign, she recorded personal bests at 800m and the mile...She logged a 4:50.20 readout to finish third in the championship division of the mile at the Tyson Invitational...Came up just short of topping that time in the SEC prelims (4:50.27) before her 4:56.29 mark in the final left her ninth and one spot shy of scoring...Ran 800m PR of 2:13.07 to finish seventh at the Virginia Tech Elite meet...Outdoors, Rolanda was a seventh-place 1500m finisher at the SEC meet, covering the distance in 4:26.83...Made the NCAA Mideast Regional in that event, but her 4:30.30 in the prelims did not advance her to the final...Ran 5000m at the SEC Outdoor meet, finishing 16th in a career-best 17:12.53...Made the SEC Academic Honor Roll for the first time...2007: Scored in SEC competition for the first time as a sophomore, contributing to the team point total at both the indoor and outdoor meets...Finished eighth indoors in the mile at 4:56.92 and was eighth outdoors in the 1500m at 4:32.19...Just missed scoring in the 1500m at the NCAA Mideast Regional, notching a ninth-place effort of 4:26.40...Ran a career-best 4:23.20 in the prelims...Assisted a pair of baton event efforts at the Pepsi Florida Relays outdoors, starting the 4x1600m unit on its way to second place in 20:14.01 and running the second leg on the distance medley tandem that placed fifth in 11:59.21...Opened for UT's 4x1500m quartet at the Penn Relays, where that foursome finished eighth in 18:13.61 to chart the third-best time in school history...Indoors, Rolanda posted her personal best in the mile, doing so in the prelims of the SEC Championships with a 4:54.45 readout...Notched a 3K PR at Penn State, covering the distance in 10:05.33...2006: During the indoor track & field campaign, Rolanda achieved career bests at three of the four individual distances she ran as a rookie...Did not have a career best in the mile, but she ran that event three times as a freshman...Best effort was a 5:00.26 count in the prelims of the SEC Championships...Outdoors, Rolanda registered a pair of personal bests in the 1500 meters, lowering her time to 4:34.04...That mark came at the USA Track & Field Junior Championships, where she forged a seventh-place finish in Indianapolis...Had a previous PR of 4:34.43 at the Sea Ray Relays...Struggling with a hamstring injury, she recorded a 4:39.41 reading at the SEC Championships and didn't make it out of the prelims. HIGH SCHOOL: Lettered four years in cross country and indoor and outdoor track, serving as team captain during her final campaign at Sacred Heart...Four-time All-Long Island selection in track & field from 2002-05 and three-time All-CHSAA (Catholic High School Athletic Association) choice over her final three seasons...Named 2005 Sister Virginia Crowley Athlete of the Year at Sacred Heart...Competed in both the Penn Relays and Milrose Games in 2004 and 2005...Placed seventh in the mile run at Penn as a senior in 5:01.12 behind victorious Lady Vol teammate Sarah Bowman...Was eighth in Milrose high school girls' mile at 5:02.92....Set a CHSAA Intersectional meet record in the 1500 meters in 2005 at 4:37.67...Named the CHSAA MVP for indoor and outdoor track her final two campaigns...Claimed fourth in the 1500 meters at 4:42.95 at the 2005 New York State Indoor Championships...Won the 2004 Colgate Women's Games 1500 meters at New York's Madison Square Garden in 4:49.60...Running for Awesome Power Track Club, Rolanda seized victory in the young women's division 1500 meters with a time of 4:38.22 at the 2004 USATF Junior Olympics in Eugene, Ore...Also won the 1500m at the 2004 AAU Junior Olympics with a time of 4:42.22...Fourth in the 2004 National Scholastic Indoor Championship in the mile at 4:57.77...Cross country career bests include 15:10 for 2.5 miles and 19:14 for 3.1 miles...Track & field prep personal records included 2:16 indoors and 2:12 outdoors in the 800 meters, 2:58 indoors in the 1000 meters, 4:57.77 indoors in the mile, and 4:36 outdoors in the 1500 meters...Recipient of the Hispanic Leaders of Tomorrow Award...Extracurricular activities included tap dancing and membership in Spanish Club, the gospel choir and prayer group.
PERSONAL:
Rolanda is majoring in exercise science...Activities outside competitive athletics include playing tennis, tutoring and serving as a volunteer track official at meets and as an alter server at her church...Would like to one day run in the Olympic Games, representing Panama...She has an older sister, Alana-Paige, 25...Rolanda Chanel Bell was born in Queens, N.Y., on Oct. 27, 1987...Her parents are Rolando and Karen Bell.
