TENNESSEE:

2008: Despite arriving in January, Annie made a seamless transition to collegiate track & field and life in a foreign country...She became the first freshman female in SEC history to sweep indoor and outdoor shot put titles and also win the discus...Set UT records in the shot put indoors and out, charting best marks of 57-2 and 57-3, respectively...Indoors, she won three shot put competitions, opening her career with back-to-back victories at the Kentucky Invitational (53-9 1/4) and Penn State National (53-3 3/4)...Her other victory came at the SEC meet with a school-best measurement of 57-2...She was the first Lady Vol since 1995 to claim that title...Also added an indoor discus triumph at Kentucky with a mark of 164-3 in the exhibition event and stretched the tape to 41-8 1/2 in her first attempt at the weight throw at the Virginia Tech Elite meet...Had an off day at the NCAA Championships, winding up 10th in the shot at 53-7 1/2 and just missing the finals...Indoor awards included SEC Indoor Freshman Field Athlete of the Year, First-Team Indoor All-SEC, SEC Indoor All-Freshman Team and SEC Female Freshman of the Week (Jan. 15 and 29, Feb. 12)...Outdoors, Annie won nine discus and two shot put competitions...Claimed the aforementioned SEC Outdoor discus title with a Trinidad & Tobago national record toss of 187-6...Later improved that mark and her career best to 189-3 at the KMC Throws Twilight in Lexington, Ky....Claimed an NCAA Mideast Region title in the discus at 183-10...Another win came at her country's Olympic Trials meet, the Sagicor/NAAA Championships, at 178-3...Was second in the shot at that meet in 55-3...Represented her country at the CAC Championships in Cali, Colombia, in July, placing third in the discus at 179-3 and sixth in the shot at 50-10 3/4...Unable to hit the big throws at the NCAA Outdoor meet, as she finished 10th in the shot at 51-6 1/2 and 23rd in the discus at 155-1...Her two triumphs in the shot came at the Georgia Invitational, where she posted a mark of 51-10, and the SEC meet, where she came up with a toss of 56-6 3/4 on her final throw...Was third at the Mideast Regional in the shot at 55-5...Outdoor awards included USTFCCCA All-Mideast Region, SEC Outdoor Freshman Field Athlete of the Year, First-Team Outdoor All-SEC, SEC Outdoor All-Freshman Team and SEC Female Field Athlete of the Week (April 15).

HIGH SCHOOL:

Attended San Juan Secondary Comprehensive School...Has represented Trinidad and Tobago numerous times in international competition...Finished 10th in the shot put with a then-PR and national junior record throw of 52-0 3/4 at the 2006 IAAF World Junior Championships in Beijing, China...Also placed 10th at World Juniors in 2004, stretching the tape to 50-4 in the prelims and 49-11 in the finals...Swept shot put and discus titles in 2006 at the Carifta Games, National Junior Championships and Central America and Caribbean (CAC) Junior Championships...Set a national junior record in the discus en route to her victory at the Carifta Games, registering a career-best mark of 153-1...Etched a CAC Junior Championships record in the shot put in 2004, when she triumphed with a heave of 51-7 3/4 to break a 16-year-old mark...Had documented practice marks of 53-4 1/4 in the shot and 168-8 in the discus that were recorded in January and February of 2007...Earned General Proficiency Award and a Certificate of Achievement in Computer Literacy and garnered a Young Leaders Award and a Perfect Training Seminar Certificate at San Juan Secondary Comprehensive School.

Annie is enrolled in the College of Arts & Sciences...Models herself after countrywoman and former Florida throws standout Candice Scott...Aspires to one day win an Olympic gold medal in the shot and discus...She has six siblings, including Alice, 26; Althea, 23; Anson, 17; Anika, 15; Allan, 13; and Maxwell, 12...Annie Antoinette Alexander was born in Trinidad on Aug. 28, 1987...Her parents are Donna Jeffrey and Anthony Alexander.
