UT CAREER HIGHLIGHTS: Two-time All-American in shot put...Three-time SEC champion (twice in shot, once in discus)...UT record-holder indoors (57-2) and outdoors (57-3) in the shot put...Ranks second all-time at UT in the discus (189-3) and is the Trinidad & Tobago national record-holder in that event...First SEC freshman female to sweep indoor and outdoor shot put and discus titles in same season (2008). 2009: Finished third in the shot put at the NCAA Indoor (57-2) and Outdoor Championships (54-6 1/2), earning USTFCCCA All-America distinction on each occasion...Tied her own school record at NCAA Indoors...Runner-up at SEC Indoors (54-5 1/2) and third at SEC Outdoors (53-5 3/4) in the shot...Also took second at SEC Outdoors in the discus (180-5)...Named second-team All-SEC indoors and out...Won shot put (55-9) and was second in the discus (185-8) at the NCAA Mideast Regional...Qualified for Trinidad & Tobago's World Championship Team in the shot put, but did not advance out of the prelims in Berlin...Finished fourth in the shot and discus at the CAC Senior Championships in for her country...Won the discus and took second in the shot in Trinidad & Tobago's national championship meet, the NAAA/Sagicor Championships...During the season, she claimed four discus wins (Pepsi Florida Relays, Volunteer Track Classic, Tennessee Invitational and NAAA/Sagicor Championships) and seven shot put crowns, with three of those shot victories coming outdoors (Sea Ray Relays, Volunteer Track Classic and NCAA Mideast Regional)...Her indoor shot put triumphs came in consecutive meets at the Texas A&M Dual, Penn State National Invitational, New Balance Collegiate Invitational and the Tyson Invitational. 2008: Arrived on campus in January and went on to became the first freshman female in SEC history to sweep indoor (57-2) and outdoor (56-6 3/4) shot put titles and also win the discus (187-6)...The indoor shot mark was a UT record, while the discus measurement was a Trinidad & Tobago national record...She improved the discus mark to 189-3 later in the season...Posted outdoor shot record of 57-3 at the Sea Ray Relays...Won discus (183-10) at the NCAA Mideast Regional and finished third in the shot (55-5)...Named SEC Indoor and Outdoor Freshman Field Event Athlete of the Year, made the SEC Indoor and Outdoor All-Freshman Team and was a first-team All-SEC selection indoors and out...Also made the USTFCCCA All-Mideast Regional Team...Finished 10th in the shot (53-7 1/2) at NCAA Indoors and was 10th in the shot (51-6 1/2) and 23rd in the discus (155-1) at NCAA Outdoors...Wound up with five shot victories and nine discus triumphs during the campaign...One came at her country's Olympic Trials meet, the Sagicor/NAAA Championships, where she also was second in the shot put...Represented her country at the CAC Championships in Cali, Colombia, in July, placing third in the discus and sixth in the shot. HIGH SCHOOL: Attended San Juan Secondary Comprehensive School...Finished 10th in the shot put with a then-PR and national junior record throw of 52-0 3/4 at the 2006 IAAF World Junior Championships in Beijing, China...Also placed 10th at World Juniors in 2004, stretching the tape to 50-4 in the prelims and 49-11 in the finals...Swept shot put and discus titles in 2006 at the Carifta Games, National Junior Championships and Central America and Caribbean (CAC) Junior Championships...Set a national junior record in the discus en route to her victory at the Carifta Games, registering a then-career-best mark of 153-1...Etched a CAC Junior Championships record in the shot in 2004, triumphing with a heave of 51-7 3/4. PERSONAL: Annie is enrolled in the College of Communication and Information...She has six siblings, including Alice, 27; Althea, 24; Anson, 18; Anika, 16; Allan, 14; and Maxwell, 13...Annie Antoinette Alexander was born in Trinidad on Aug. 28, 1987...Her parents are Donna Jeffrey and Anthony Alexander. |
