LADY VOL TENNIS INKS TWO MORE PLAYERS FOR 2006-07
May 23, 2006 KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - The University of Tennessee Lady Vol tennis co-head coaches Mike Patrick and Sonia Hahn-Patrick have announced the signings of two student-athletes to national letters of intent, as Maria Sorbello (Mackay, Australia) and Zsofia Zubor (Nyiregyhaza, Hungary) will begin play for the Lady Vols in 2006-07. Sorbello is currently ranked No. 1 in Queensland for U-18 girls and will arrive in Knoxville with a number of impressive credentials. She earned all-Australian honors at the 2006 Pizzey Cup in Queensland for the third consecutive year (2004-06), becoming the first person to do so since the tournament was created in 1978. Her Queensland team has also earned the team championship the past two seasons. In 2005, her St. Margaret's Anglican Girls School claimed the title at the National School Team Championships. Zubor has seen her name posted high on the list of the Hungarian national rankings, as she has reached as high as 24th overall and second in juniors. She claimed the doubles national championship in 2001, while playing with Agnes Szavay. In 2004 and 2005, Zubor advanced to the age-group 18 national semifinals. She was honored by the Hungarian government as the National Good Athlete and Good Student in 2003. She served as a member of the Hungarian national tennis team at the European Championships on five occasions dating to 2001.
In the fall, the Lady Vols inked Connor Vogel (Germantown, Tenn.) and Caitlin
Whoriskey (Boca Raton, Fla.) to play in the 2006-07 season.
