Mario Toledo is in his seventh year with the Lady Vols. He has significant experience with the University of Tennessee as he played with the Volunteer tennis team from 2000-02 after transferring from Georgia Perimeter College, where he claimed a junior college national championship both seasons. He was named the David Rowland Male Junior College Athlete of the Year, a national award covering all collegiate sports, in his second season. At UT, Toledo went 19-8 as a junior and 33-12 in his final collegiate campaign, posting a cumulative 21-4 record in the No. 2 position.
In 2000-01, he was the only Vol to go undefeated in SEC and NCAA Tournament play, accumulating a 7-0 mark as the Volunteers advanced to the NCAA National Final before falling to Georgia, 4-1, in Athens in the first-ever meeting between SEC teams for a men's tennis national title. His senior season, Toledo earned All-American honors and was ranked 10th in the nation, as he helped lead Tennessee to an NCAA National Semifinal berth. He earned a bachelor's degree in political science in 2003.
At Tennessee, Toledo assists at practices and travels with the team on a part-time basis. He has also been working at the Knoxville Racquet Club for five seasons as a head tennis professional. Duties there include organizing adult clinics, planning tournaments and supervising the junior development program, as well as teaching adults and juniors in private and group settings.
