Lady Vols On National Teams

Lady Vols Currently on National Teams

Christine Magnuson

Four Lady Vols are currently representing their countries on national teams. Former Lady Vol Fabiola Molina has represented her native Brazil on the international level in several competitions, including the 2000 Olympics. Most recently, she swam at the 2007 Pan American Games in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, taking second in the 100m back and helping the 400m medley relay team place third. Also in Brazil was sophomore Michele King, who was a member of the USA 400m free relay team which placed first in the prelims, and went on to take the gold medal in the finals.

Senior standout Christine Magnuson was named to the U.S. National Team, and competed for the Red, White and Blue at the 2007 Japan International Grand Prix in Chiba, Japan, this summer. Magnuson swam in the 100y fly (fourth), 50m free (seventh), 100m free (sixth), and helped the 400m and 800m free relays place third and fourth, respectively.

Freshman Martina Moravcikova went to the 2007 World University Games in Bangkok, Thailand, wearing the colors of the Czech Republic. The breaststroker represented her country in the 50m, 100m and 200m breast. She was sixth in her heat in the 50m and 200m, and seventh in the third heat of the 100m.

Lady Vols in the Olympics

Lady Vol swimmers represented their home countries in both the 1996 and 2000 Olympics. Teresa Moodie, who clocked the second-fastest time in UT women’s history for the 100y free, competed for Zimbabwe at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta. Fabiola Molina, a five-time All-American at Tennessee while swimming the individual medley and relay events, competed for Brazil at the 2000 Games in Sydney, Australia.

In the same year, Julia Stowers won a gold medal for the United States as part of the 800m free relay team. Stowers spent her senior year at Rocky Top.

Representing the USA

Michele King

Several Lady Vol swimmers and divers have represented the United States on teams at international competitions over the years. Nicole deMan first represented the Stars and Stripes as a member of the 1995 World University Games Team, where she claimed a silver medal in the 50m free. Julie Millis became a double-medalist at the same competition, held in Fukuoka, Japan, as she won silver medals in both the 800m and 1500m free events. deMan also competed as a member of the U.S. team at the 1997 Pan Pacific Championships in Fukuoka, where she garnered a bronze medal in the 50m free and as a member of the 400m free relay team. Julia Stowers was a gold medalist at the 2000 Olympics, as she swam with the U.S. 800m free relay team. All-American diver Jaime Sanger also earned a berth on the U.S. Senior National Team in 2003.

Most recently, Christine Magnuson and Michele King have traveled abroad wearing the Red, Whit and Blue.





World Cup Diving

In 1999, the diving due of former Lady Vols Kathy Pesek and Tracy Bonner placed fifth at the World Cup in Wellington, New Zealand. During the 2000 season, the pair finished second in the synchronized competition at the outdoor championships, while Pesek won the platform contest during the indoor season. Both divers earned NCAA Titles as Lady Vols, and also teamed up at the 1998 Goodwill Games to finish fourth in synchronized diving.
