Kredich Named to Coaching Staff for World University Games
Nov. 5, 2008
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Lady Vol head swimming coach Matt Kredich was named an assistant coach on the U.S. staff for the 2009 World University Games as USA Swimming announced the coaching staffs for the World University Games, World Championships and Junior Pan Pacific Championships on Tuesday.
The 2009 World University Games U.S. coaching staff will include women's head coach Steve Bultman (College Station, Texas) and men's head coach Mark Bernardino (Charlottesville, Va.). Kredich (Knoxville, Tenn.) and Gregg Wilson (Santa Barbara, Calif.) will serve as the women's assistant coaches, while Ray Loose (Bloomington, Ind.) and Tim Murphy (Boston, Mass.) will be the men's assistant coaches. The competition will take place in Belgrade, Serbia, July 5-11.
"The coaches who work with our young athletes at the World University Games and Junior Pan Pacifics, play an integral role in the development of USA Swimming's most outstanding young talent," said Mark Schubert, USA Swimming's National Team head coach and general manager. "By putting experienced and successful coaches in key roles with our young teams, we are providing the athletes with the best possible foundation for their continued international success."
Joining Kredich on the team is Tennessee junior Michele King, who was named to the U.S. roster for the Games in September.
King, a native of York, Pa., earned a place on the team thanks to her performance in the 50m free at the U.S. Open Championships that took place July 29-August 2 in Minneapolis, Minn. King's career-best time of 25.22 put her in a tie for first place with Madison Kennedy (Avon, Conn.) at the event.
