Inaugural Lady Vol Softball Alumni Game Highlights Fall Schedule

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Tennessee co-head coaches Ralph and Karen Weekly have announced that the Big Orange will christen a new tradition this year by hosting the inaugural Lady Vol Softball Alumni Game on Sunday, October 5th, at 3 p.m. at the Sherri Parker Lee Softball Stadium in Knoxville, Tenn. A notable group of former Lady Vols will return to campus to face the '09 version of the Big Orange softball squad. Admission will be free to all who wish to attend the contest.
Among the list of notable UT alumni who are currently slated to participate in the match-up are 2008 U.S. Olympic silver medal-winning pitcher Monica Abbott, former National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Americans India Chiles, Tonya Callahan and Sarah Fekete, All-Southeastern Conference catcher Shannon Doepking and prominent right-handed hurler Megan Rhodes. Each of those six players played vital roles in three consecutive trips to the annual Women's College World Series in Oklahoma City, Okla., and a trio of top-three national finishes.
Also currently included in the potential line-up for the alumni are former Lady Vol standouts Stephanie and Ellisha Humphrey, Jenny Steele, Lauren Mattox, Carissa Roustan and another WCWS heroine Katherine Card (2005 WCWS All-Tournament), with the list expected to grow before game-time.
Any Lady Vol softball alumni interested in participating in the weekend that haven't yet been contacted are advised by the Weeklys' to call Lady Vol Director of Softball Operations Kendall Rainey at 865-974-9675 to inquire about joining the inaugural event.
