With Arizona's win, the WCWS Championship Series will go to a third and deciding game for the second time in three years. After losing Game 1 in 2005, Michigan beat UCLA in Games 2 and 3. Tonight's 10-inning game was the longest of the 2007 WCWS and just the second extra-innings contest at this year's event. Arizona was also involved in the other, a 2-1 Wildcats win over Baylor (9 innings) in the opening round. With 11 K's tonight, Tennessee's Monica Abbott set a one-year WCWS record for strikeouts with 68. The previous record was owned by Arizona's Alicia Hollowell who struck out 64 in 2006. Arizona's 10th-inning run ended Abbott's scoreless innings streak in the 2007 NCAA Tournament at 43. Tonight's win was the 41st of the season for Arizona pitcher Taryne Mowatt, tying Hollowell's Wildcat record set in 2004. Mowatt's complete game was her seventh of the 2007 WCWS, establishing a new WCWS record. With 11 strikeouts tonight, Mowatt broke the Arizona single-season record with 511. Hollowell held the previous record of 508 in 2004. Mowatt's 11 strikeouts moved her into second place in the WCWS record books for K's in a series (65). Abbott, who struck out 11 as well, holds the top spot with 68. Arizona's Kristie Fox logged her 10th hit of this year's event, the second-most all-time in a College World Series. UCLA's Natasha Watley recorded 11 hits in 2003. The Wildcats' Danielle Rodriguez scored the game's lone run in the 10th inning. Today is Rodriguez's 21st birthday. Arizona sophomore first baseman Sam Banister went 2-for-3 tonight for the second time in as many games. It marked her first back-to-back multi-hit performance of the year. This evening's crowd of 5,301 added to the record-breaking attendance at the 2007 WCWS. So far, 56,930 fans have passed through the gates at ASA Hall of Fame Stadium. The previous record for a WCWS event was 46,122 set last year. The final game of the 2007 WCWS will be played Wednesday at 7 p.m. (CDT). The game will be televised by ESPN2HD.
