AS A FRESHMAN (2012):
Has played in 30 contests in 2012 with 17 starts at either catcher (16 starts) or designated player (one start)...Started behind the plate against #9 Louisville and took advantage of the opportunity, going 1-for-4 with two RBIs as UT rolled past the Cardinals, 8-1...Posted a walk-off, two-RBI single in the sixth inning to finish the 10-2 (6 inn.) rout of #22/21 LSU (4/15)...Registered a RBI via a sacrifice fly in the 6-2 finale victory over Auburn (4/8)...Stepped in behind the plate after an injury to Ashley Andrews during the third inning at Auburn (4/7) and played solidly as Tennessee topped AU in 10 innings, 5-3...Received at-bats during contests at #1 Alabama (3/21) and at Mississippi State (3/24)...Singled as a pinch hitter during the sixth inn. of UT's 7-0 rout of Georgia Southern (3/13)...Stretched her RBI streak to a career-best three consecutive games with single RBIs during wins over ETSU (3/3) and Murray State (3/4)...Blasted her first collegiate HR, a two-run shot, in the fourth frame of the 7-0 victory over Memphis (3/3)...Singled and later delivered a sacrifice fly as part of a 1-for-2 effort with a run scored in UT's 10-7 win over Illinois (2/17)...Picked up her first collegiate base hit and RBI via a first-inning infield single off #4 Cal's All-American hurler Jolene Henderson (2/10).
HIGH SCHOOL:
A native of Escondido, Calif., Hannah Akamine is the third of a trio of sisters to play Division I collegiate softball, joining her siblings former Arizona pitcher Sarah Akamine and current Penn State senior pitcher/utility player Lisa Akamine...Having played at catcher, shortstop and in the outfield during her interscholastic career, she recorded stat totals of .306 with seven RBIs as a freshman (2008), .389 with five HR's and 20 RBIs as a sophomore (2009) and .353 with five HR's and 29 RBIs during her senior campaign (2011) at Escondido H.S...She was injured during the majority of her junior season (2010)...Chosen first team All-Avocado East League (San Diego Section) as well as All-North County by the North County Times in 2011...Was tabbed as a 2011 "Softball Player to Watch" by the San Diego Union-Tribune...For her stellar efforts during the `09 year, Akamine was selected by the San Diego Hall of Champions to its 2009 Breitbard Athletic Association All-California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) San Diego Section Second Team...Having played 16-U and 18-U Gold ball for the San Diego Legacy, Akamine helped guide her squad to a quartet of Amateur Softball Association (ASA) Nationals appearances (2008, 2009, 2010, 2011) with a ninth-place finish in 2009.
PERSONAL:
