Blount's top pupil was Phillips-Bosshart, who completed her career ranked second on the career SEC charts with 32 shutouts and a 0.82 goals against average. The Vernon, Conn., standout holds the all-time Tennessee marks in minutes in goal, shutouts, wins and goals against average. Phillips-Bosshart helped the Lady Vols to three straight SEC regular-season titles and two tournament crowns during her three years between the pipes.

The 2005 campaign saw Blount tutor Phillips-Bosshart to 10 clean sheets on the way to a 15-6-2 record, UT's third SEC Tournament title and a fifth consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance. She owns the top five solo shutout streak marks in Tennessee history, with her top mark stretching to 418:28 after four consecutive blankings that started in the last regular season contest at Georgia and did not end until the first round of the NCAA Tournament against Wake Forest. The 290-minute skein in the SEC Tournament is the longest ever in the league's history and just the second to cover a team's entire three-game slate.

The 2004 season was another amazing campaign at Rocky Top, as the Lady Vols advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16 for the third straight year. UT tied a program mark by allowing just 18 goals, pitching 11 shutouts and registering a Tennessee record 0.72 goals-against-average and .841 save percentage. Phillips-Bosshart led the Southeastern Conference in shutouts (11), GAA (0.68) and save percentage (.843), shut out No. 1 North Carolina in a scoreless tie during the First Tennessee Lady Vol Classic and recorded shutout streaks of 334:58 and 325:24 during the season.

Prior to the 2003 campaign, questions abounded as to how UT could replace four-year starter Ellen Dean. Blount's assistance with Phillips-Bosshart paid off handsomely, as his protégé ranked second in the Southeastern Conference in goals against average (0.73) and tied for the top spot with a dozen shutouts. Phillips-Bosshart backstopped the Orange to a school-record 12-match unbeaten streak from Oct. 5 through Nov. 22 and a second straight appearance in the third round of the Women's College Cup. In addition, the Lady Vols' performance of 7-1-1 in the SEC regular season enabled them to take home both the league's overall and Eastern Division hardware for the first time. Phillips-Bosshart would later yield one goal over 290 minutes of action during the SEC Tournament as UT repeated as the event's champion.

Blount's efforts in his first year were instrumental in helping Tennessee reach the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament en route to a national ranking of 10th in the final polls. Working primarily with Dean, who had missed the entire 2001 campaign while recovering from a broken leg, Blount's tutelage resulted in several single-season standards by the netminder. In securing all 18 of her squad's wins, Dean ranked in the top five in the SEC's overall statistics in solo shutouts (six - third), goals against average (1.01 - fourth) and saves (75 - fifth). Most importantly, the Lady Vols only surrendered more than two tallies once in their 25 matches in 2002.

A three-time Goalkeeper of the Year in the Southern Conference at Furman University between 1999-2001, Blount arrived at UT after serving as a volunteer goalkeeper coach at his alma mater in the spring of 2002. A three-time National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Academic All-American, he earned honorable mention All-America accolades from College Soccer News in 2001 after backstopping the Paladins to their fourth-straight SoCon regular-season crown, their third-consecutive SoCon Tournament title and the squad's third NCAA appearance in a row. The keeper finished 16-5 and sported a 0.87 GAA and registered four shutouts in his final campaign. He was later selected as one of 11 finalists for the NSCAA/adidas College Scholar-Athlete award.

In February 2002, Blount was selected by the Atlanta Silverbacks with the 10th pick in the first round of the A-League College Player Draft. He was also invited to a training camp held by the Dallas Burn from Major League Soccer. A native of Brentwood, Tenn., Blount was named to the 2001 Verizon Academic All-America Men's Soccer Second Team. A business administration and economics double major, he graduated cum laude from Furman with a 3.47 grade point average in '01.

Blount has also served as the goalkeeper coach for the Golden Strip Soccer Club ('99), the Music City Lady Sting ('96, '97) and was a volunteer coach at Harpeth Hall High School ('95, '96) in Nashville. He has been the head goalkeeper instructor at Furman's soccer camps since 1999, where he developed the curriculum for 30-40 male and female keepers and created and implemented the training sessions based upon individual capabilities and weaknesses. He has been an instructor at Tony DiCicco's Soccer Plus Goalkeeping Schools, named for the former coach of the U.S. Women's National Team. In addition, Blount was invited to a tryout for the Under-20 U.S. National Team in 1997 but was unable to participate due to a broken foot.
