KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - The University of Tennessee and Head Coach Lisa Glenn announce the hiring of Erika Twedt as assistant coach with the rowing program. Twedt is a 2001 graduate of UT, having competed as a coxswain for the Lady Volunteers for two years after transferring from the University of Iowa.

Coach Glenn introduced Twedt to the sport prior to taking the helm of the Tennessee program in 1998. After posting an undefeated season as a Hawkeye coxswain in her freshman year with Coach Glenn, she transferred to Tennessee to be a part of a new era in Lady Vol Rowing; laying the foundation for the first Varsity Eight Bid to the NCAA Championships in 2003.

Twedt's responsibilities include assisting in all areas of the program with emphasis on recruiting, coxswain development and the V4+ boat.

"It's great to be working with Coach Twedt again in a new capacity," Glenn said. "While the shoes she fills are different than they were nine years ago, the motivation, goals and commitment to excellence remain the same."

Twedt comes to Knoxville from Missoula, Montana, where she served as Director of Development and Alumni Relations for the University of Montana Foundation.

A law degree recipient, Coach Twedt earned her J.D. from the Hamline University Law School in St. Paul, Minn., in 2008. While in the North Star State, she also began her coaching career as an assistant coach for the Minnesota Boat Club's competitive team. On her watch, the team successfully defended its first-place finish at the Head of the Charles Regatta, setting a new course record in the process.

"Erika brings many attributes to the table; her strong communication skills, broad experience, intellect, and motivation to be the best are requirements for this position," Glenn said. "I'm excited to help her utilize these strengths to take our fours, and our program, into new competitive territory."

After graduating from UT in 2001, Twedt's career path has taken her all over the world. Prior to heading up Development and Alumni Relations at Montana, she worked in Colorado and Minnesota. From 2004-05, she lived in Togo, West Africa, as part of the Peace Corps, where she worked as a Community Health and AIDS Prevention Volunteer. She also studied abroad in Norway and Israel from 2006-07.
