June 8, 2010
By Donnie Conley, Media Relations Student Assistant KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - University of Tennessee senior Laura Miller was selected as a second team All-American by the College Rowing Coaches Association on Tuesday morning. Miller, a native of Columbus, Miss., helped lead the Lady Vols to the NCAA Rowing Championships for the seventh time in school history--the fourth as a full team. In her career, Miller was a part of three squads that competed at NCAAs, including the first-ever Tennessee boat to reach the grand finals, the 2V8+ in 2008. This season, she earned numerous postseason honors. She was named to the All-Conference USA first team, as well as being selected as the league's 2010 Rower of the Year. She was also chosen to the CRCA's All-South Region first team. Rowing exclusively from the V8+ boat, Miller helped propel the Lady Vols to a fourth place finish at the 2010 Lake Natoma Invitational on April 17-18. From there, the Orange and White captured the inaugural Conference USA Rowing Championship at the 2010 Aramark Sprints, held in Oak Ridge, Tenn., from May 15-16. UT placed a boat in the Grand Finals of the 2V8+ and V8+, taking third place in the South Region. Miller also excelled in the classroom, garnering three Academic All-SEC selections in her career. She recently graduated with a degree in Biochemistry and Cellular and Molecular Biology.
