"Kay is a contributor on many levels. I am pleased that she is serving as team captain this year, because she expects her teammates to get the job done, just as she expects it of herself. As an athlete, she is commanding and focused. As a person, she is thoughtful, respectful and deliberate. As a student, Kay excels. I expect her technical approach to the stroke to improve everyday so she has many strengths from which to work this spring."

FALL 2002: Opened the season by winning a gold medal in the Championship 8+ event at the Chattanooga Head Race...Rowed in UT's 8+ shell that placed 25th in a 47-boat field in the Championship 8+ at the Head of the Charles...Member of squad that placed second in the Championship 8+ at the Head of the Chattahoochee...2001-02: Moved up to the Varsity 8+ for the fall season, winning gold at the Chattanooga Head Race and Head of the Charles...Remained in the Varsity 8+ during the entire spring season...Helped stroke her shell to a gold medal at the SIRA Championships...Also helped her boat achieve victory at the Tennessee Invitational...Earned second-team All-South Region honors from the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA)...Recognized as a CRCA National Scholar-Athlete...Garnered Academic All-SEC honors and became a member of the Lady Vol Honor Roll for the third consecutive year...Received the team's Effort=Achievement Award...2000-01: Rowed with the 2nd Varsity 8+ throughout the spring season...Shell finished second during the Grand Final of the SIRA Championships...Also captured second at the Indiana Cup...Her boat was the number one seed heading into the Third Final of the San Diego Crew Classic...Finished the fall season with seven medals, including two gold medals, three silver medals and two bronze medals...Led the Lady Vol sophomore class with a grade point average of 4.00...1999-2000: Made her debut at the Head of the Chattahoochee as a member of the Novice 8+ boat and remained in that boat throughout the year...Grade point average of 4.00 earned her Lady Vol Honor Roll accolades and the highest average in the freshman class...

A 1999 graduate of Carter High, Kay was a member of the volleyball, swimming, tennis, track and field, and dance teams...All-state volleyball player in 1999 after being named to the all-district team in 1998...Won the High School Heisman in volleyball...Member of the Drama Club, Key Club, Spanish Club, FHA Club and Ski Club...Awarded the Drama Club Award and Community Service Award...Listed among Who's Who Among American High School Students ...
