Former Lady Vol Angela Oh Earns LPGA Card
Dec. 7, 2008
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- By shooting a 1-over-par 73 on the LPGA International Champion course, former Lady Vol golfer Angela Oh held on to tie for 40th and nab her LPGA card on Sunday on the final day of the LPGA Final Qualifying Tournament.
Oh finished with a five-round total score of 72-71-74-70-73=360 (E). By finishing between 31st and 40th, she earned a Priority in Category 20 LPGA membership.
The Maple Shade, N.J., native becomes the fourth Lady Vol golfer to earn LPGA membership joining Young-A Yang, Violeta Retamoza and Jessica Shepley.
Yang has been a professional for five years and is the current volunteer assistant golf coach for the Lady Vols. She was runner-up at the Giant Eagle LPGA Classic in 2004.
Retamoza was a rookie on the LPGA Tour this past season, while Shepley just earned her 2009 card by placing seventh on the Duramed FUTURES Tour money list in 2008.
All three joined Oh at Q-School, but neither made the cut.
Oh played two years for the Lady Vols, earning honorable-mention All-America honors from Golfweek as well as second-team All-SEC in 2007.
She finished her collegiate career with a 75.08 stroke average, fifth-best in Lady Vol history.
Former Arkansas All-American Stacy Lewis won the tournament at 18-under (342), three strokes ahead of Amy Yang.
The top 40 finishers of the 140-person field earned LPGA Tour cards for 2009.
