KNOXVILLE, Fla. - Head women's golf coach Judi Pavon announced the signing of Denmark-native Sara Monberg on Tuesday.

"I am excited to announce that Sara Monberg from Denmark has signed to play at Tennessee next fall," Pavon said. "Sara is a very accomplished player and is a member of Denmark's National Team.

"She represented Europe in the 2007 PING Junior Solheim Cup alongside current UT golfer Nathalie Mansson. She will bring a lot of personality and teamwork to our program. I expect Sara to be playing for us right away and to make an immediate impact."

Monberg teamed with Mansson on Team Europe to win the 2007 Junior Solheim Cup, 14-10, over the United States. The tournament matched the top 12 junior girls from Europe against those from the U.S.

The 19-year-old from Juelsminde, Denmark, has gained extensive experience playing internationally as a member of the Danish National Team. Her third-place finish at the 2007 British Amateur Championship propelled Denmark to a second-place team finish. She carded a 147 (71-76) at the Southerndown Golf Club in Wales.

She also led Denmark to a third-place finish at the 2007 European Golf Association Girls Team Championship by tying for 13th individually with a score of 148 (74-74).

Additionally, Monberg was the 2006 Danish International Ladies Amateur Champion in 2006 and tied for 14th at the 2008 tournament.

Monberg joins Erica Popson, of Davenport, Fla., as Lady Vol golf signees in the 2009 recruiting class.

The Lady Vol golf team just began its winter training after wrapping up its fall season with a 2-1 record at the Hooters Collegiate Match Play Championship from Nov. 2-4. UT will be back in action on Feb. 8 at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
