CANDACE PARKER NAMED LADY VOL AND SEC PLAYER OF THE WEEK

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - University of Tennessee basketball star Candace Parker was tabbed the SEC Player of the Week on Monday after leading her team to victories over No. 11 Stanford, 77-60 and Middle Tennessee, 88-64. Parker was tabbed Lady Vol Athlete of the Week earlier on Monday. The Naperville, Ill., native averaged 20.5 points, 9.0 rebounds and 4.0 blocks in the two games. Parker connected on both three-point attempts and made 65 percent of her shots from the field. Her all-around game continues to improve as she dished four assists and nabbed six steals in the pair of contests. She also slammed home her second dunk of the 2006-07 season and fourth of her career in the win over the Cardinal. The stuff was her first over a ranked opponent. Thus far during her sophomore campaign, Parker leads the Southeastern Conference in scoring (20.6 ppg), is tied for second in defensive rebounds (5.8 rpg), third in blocks (2.0 bpg) and fourth in field goal percentage (.627). She is currently the Lady Vols' leading scorer, rebounder (7.4 rpg) and shot blocker. Her 62.7 percent clip from the field ranks her third in single-season completion rate in the UT record books. Her career mark of .562 ranks fourth in the all-time annals. Parker will look for her second double-double of the season on Tuesday night at Louisiana Tech. Tip-off from Ruston, La., is slated for 8 p.m. ET. The 39th meeting between the Lady Vols and Lady Techsters will be aired live on CSTV. UT leads the series 21-17 and has won six in a row. Tennessee has beaten Louisiana Tech more than any other program in Lady Techster history. Conversely, LTU's 17 victories against the Lady Vols are the most by an opponent in UT history. The Tennessee and Louisiana Tech programs are the only two to compete in all 25 NCAA Tournaments.
