Lady Vols Basketball Helps Collect Coats for the Cold
Nov. 24, 2009
Tennessee Athletics and Knox Area Rescue Ministries (KARM) will be collecting new or slightly used coats prior to the Lady Vol basketball game against UCLA Saturday, Nov. 28 at Thompson-Boling Arena. Fans that donate a coat will receive free admission to the game.
"I am always overwhelmed by the generosity of our Lady Vol fans," Women's Athletic Director Joan Cronan said. "With winter approaching, it is important for us to remember those less fortunate. I am proud to partner with KARM in this effort to help the people of Knoxville."
Collection bins will be located at the Thompson-Boling Arena Ticket Office as well as the northwest and northeast gates beginning at 1:30 p.m. on game day. Members of the Tennessee Athletic Department, KARM, and Prestige Cleaners will be at collection sites accepting coats. Gates will open at 2 p.m. and the game begins at 3 p.m.
KARM's Coats for the Cold program works to ensure those who are homeless or have fallen on hard times have a warm winter coat. With the help of area sponsors, KARM hopes to offer nearly 10,000 free coats this year to those in need. If you cannot make it to the Lady Vols match-up with UCLA, but would like to help KARM, please visit www.karm.org or call Knox Area Rescue Ministries at 865-673-4650 to make a monetary donation.
