KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- University of Tennessee Lady Volunteer Basketball Coach Pat Summitt has announced the signing of Alberta Auguste and Shannon Bobbitt.

"We are very excited to have both Alberta and Shannon sign with the University of Tennessee Lady Vols," said Summitt. "They come to our program after earning Kodak All-America honors this season on the junior college/community college level and that speaks volumes to their ability to step in as juniors and give us needed help in the backcourt," added Summitt.

Auguste and Bobbitt join Cait McMahan, a 5'6" point guard from nearby Heritage High School in Maryville, Tenn., and Nicci Moats, a 6'2" forward from Lord Botetourt High School in Daleville, Va., who inked scholarship papers during the November early signing period.

A versatile 5'11" guard/forward at Central Florida Community College (Ocala, Fla.), Auguste was a prep standout at John Ehret H.S. in her hometown of Marrero, La. This past season, Auguste, who goes by the nickname of "Bird," was named to the 2006 NJCAA Kodak All-America Team. She finished second in the nation in scoring while posting 23.6 ppg and as a defensive stopper, nabbed 5.03 spg to rank third in the nation in that category.

Bobbitt, a 5'4" point guard, was the 2006 Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Junior/Community College Player of the Year as well as a Kodak All-American. The playmaking guard starred at Trinity Valley Community College (Athens, Texas) and was an outstanding prepster at Murry Bergtraum H.S. in New York where she helped to lead her team to two straight PSAL and State Federation titles. She is a native of Manhattan.

This season, Bobbitt ranked third in the nation in assists (7.53 apg) and broke the school record at Trinity Valley for career assists. Additionally, she averaged 16.4 ppg and 3.3 spg.

Auguste and Bobbitt become the first Lady Vol junior college signees since 1977 when 5-11 forward Zandra Montgomery transferred from Cleveland State (Tenn.) Community College. Montgomery played from 1977-79.
