Baugh Has Knee Examined

Jan. 4, 2009

Jenny Moshak, University of Tennessee Associate Athletics Director for Sports Medicine, announced this afternoon that sophomore Lady Vol basketball forward Vicki Baugh's surgically repaired left knee had been re-examined.

"Dr. Greg Mathien, UT team orthopaedist, evaluated Vicki's knee this afternoon and concurred that she had suffered a lateral knee sprain," said Moshak.

According to Moshak, Baugh will continue rehabilitation of the knee and is listed as day-to-day.

Baugh, a 6-4 sophomore from Sacramento, Cal., injured the knee in the Lady Vols practice at Rutgers Prep (Piscataway, N.J.) on Jan. 1, 2009, in preparation for the game versus Rutgers on Jan. 3. Baugh was taken to the hospital for x-rays which were negative.

At the time, Moshak released the following statement: "Vicki suffered a sprain of the lateral collateral ligament in her left knee. She will be treated accordingly and is listed as day-to-day."

In the New Year's Day practice, Baugh went down and grabbed her left knee -- the same knee she injured (torn anterior cruciate ligament) in the 2008 NCAA title game against Stanford last April (reconstruction of the ACL was performed on May 13, 2008).

This year, Baugh is starting in the post and averaging 7.8 ppg and a team leading 9.7 rpg in 23.6 minutes per contest. So far this season, she has recorded three double-doubles and four games in extra digit rebounding. She was coming off her best game of the season against Gonzaga with 12 points, 15 rebounds, two assists and two blocks.

The Lady Vols open Southeastern Conference play at home on Thurs., Jan. 8 taking on Kentucky at 7 p.m. in Thompson-Boling Arena.
