LADY VOLS HANDLE THE HOUSTON JAGUARS, 101-51, IN FINAL EXHIBITION

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - The fifth-ranked Tennessee Lady Vol basketball team defeated the Houston Jaguars, 101-51, on Sunday in the final home exhibition contest of the year. Four orange-clad players scored in double figures, led by double-doubles from sophomores Candace Parker and Alex Fuller. Parker went 10-of-12 from the charity stripe and finished with 18 points, 10 rebounds and five steals. Fuller led all scorers with 20 points, 15 boards and three steals in just 24 minutes of action. Seniors Sidney Spencer and Dominique Redding finished with 19 and 10 tallies, respectively. The Lady Vols led 45-27 at the break despite shooting just 37.2 percent (compared to Houston's 47.6%) from the field. Tennessee turned things around in the second half by shooting 46.2 percent to outscore the Jaguars, 56-24, over the final 20 minutes of action. Parker's two free-throws started a 26-4 Lady Vol run that stretched over the first eight minutes of the second frame. For the game, the Big Orange held a considerable rebounding margin, grabbing 56 boards to Houston's 31. Tennessee made only 14 turnovers, and picked up 21 steals. Tennessee improves to 42-10 in exhibition tilts all-time, including a 31-3 mark at home. The Lady Vols have reached the century scoring mark in five of the last six exhibition games. Fuller put the Lady Vols over 100 points on a layup with six seconds remaining in the game. In the two exhibition games this week, Tennessee outscored opponents 205-100 and forced a combined 71 turnovers on 44 steals. The Big Orange shot 49.7 percent from the field and held nearly a 13-rebound margin over Carson-Newman and Houston. Fuller averaged a double-double (15.5 ppg, 11.4 rpg), while Redding, Parker, Alexis Hornbuckle, Nicky Anosike and Spencer averaged double-figures. Chattanooga visits Thompson-Boling Arena on Sunday, Nov. 12, at 3:00 p.m. to tip-off the regular season.
