Dr. Christopher Klenck - Team Physician

Dr. Chris Klenck was named to the post of team physician in Nov. 2006 following a primary care sports medicine fellowship at Indiana University Medical Center. He served the Indianapolis hospital since June 2001 in the positions of internal medicine/pediatrics intern, internal medicine/pediatrics resident and internal medicine/pediatrics chief resident.
During his fellowship training, Klenck was an assistant team physician for the Indianapolis Colts preseason training camps, an assistant team physician at Purdue University, his alma mater and worked the NFL Scouting Combines in Indianapolis. He has NCAA championships experience and served as a team physician in the Indiana high school ranks.
An Evansville, Ind., native, Klenck earned his doctor of pharmacy degree from Purdue before completing his doctor of medicine degree at Indiana University School of Medicine. He is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, American College of Physicians, American Medical Society for Sports Medicine and America College of Sports Medicine.
Klenck is married to the former Laura Botto of Dayton, Ohio. They are the parents of three children: Jacob, Ben and Ella.

Jenny Moshak is in her 23rd year with the Lady Vols. She directs all sports medicine for the eleven women's teams at UT and continues to work directly with basketball, traveling with the team.
Her vision led to the creation of Team ENHANCE, a unique program which creates a healthy culture for the Lady Vol student-athletes so they can achieve personal bests in their sports and in their lives. Under her leadership, the Women's Athletics Department established the program to assist student-athletes in the nutritional, mental and emotional aspects of performance, with the guidance of UT professional staff, coaches and a comprehensive group of medical experts from the private sector.
A graduate of Western Michigan in physical education, Moshak also holds a master's degree from UT in exercise physiology. She spent one year on the sports medicine/athletic training staff at Penn State before returning to UT as head athletic trainer in 1989.
The Skokie, Ill., native has been a certified member of the National Athletic Trainers' Association since 1986 and a certified strength and conditioning specialist since 1997. Her teaching experience includes eleven years as an adjunct lecturer with the Kinesiology Department at UT. Moshak is Co-Chair of the Commission for LGBT People. A frequent speaker at conferences and workshops across the country, she is often invited to write articles for sports-related magazines.
Jenny Moshak has been the recipient of numerous awards, among them the Commission for Women's Notable UTK Woman award, the first staff person to receive the award; Chancellor's Commission of LGBT People Advocate Award; the Henry Schein, Inc. Golden Scissors Award for dedication to the care and well being of student-athletes and her contributions that led to the Lady Vols 2008 National Championship; Western Michigan University Academy of Honors Award; four Governor's Outstanding Tennessean Awards; the Chancellor's Citation of Extraordinary Service to the University; the Team Excellence Award, and the Women of Achievement Award. The USA Olympic Committee cited her for "Outstanding Athletic Training Support" at the United States Olympic Festival.
The University of Tennessee Press is publishing her book, "Ice ‘n' Go! A Perspective on Life Through Sport," scheduled for release in 2012. The book presents a model for healthy living that focuses on physical, mental, and emotional development and tells the story of one woman who, in achieving her own "national championship," discovers the thrills of the journey. Colleagues in medicine, psychology, human development, education, coaching and athletic performance provide solid support and testimonial evidence for this enlightened approach to participation in sport.
An avid cyclist, she rode across the country with America By Bicycle, covering over 2900 miles in 27 days, an average of 120 miles per day; biked in England and Wales and most recently gloried in a twelve day jaunt of some 735 miles and 57,700 feet climbing in the Blue Ridge Parkway and Shenandoah Valley area.
Chris Hoffman, MS, ATC - Associate Athletic Trainer

Chris Hofmann is in her 20th year with the Lady Volunteers. She works directly with the soccer team and assists in the overall operation of the athletic training room.
Hofmann came to UT after five years as the coordinator of athletic training services in a private sports medicine clinic in Waterford, Mich. She earned her bachelor's degree from Wisconsin-LaCrosse, with a major in physical education and an emphasis in coaching and athletic training and while there she played intercollegiate badminton. Upon graduation, she taught for six years in Galesburg, Illinois, coaching high school volleyball and softball. She went on to earn her M.A. in athletic training from Western Michigan, followed by a year as the athletic trainer and teacher at an El Paso, Texas, high school.
Hofmann is an adjunct professor in the exercise science department at UT. An avid golfer, gardener, cyclist and skier, the Glen Ellyn, Ill., native has been a certified member of the NATA since 1986. Her energetic border collie mix, Sami, plays an always active role in her life in Seymour, Tennessee.
Catherine Johnson, MS, ATC - Assistant Athletic Trainer

- Lives in Maryville, Tenn., with her husband, Tyler, and their daughter, Mara
Catherine Johnson is in her 14th year as assistant athletic trainer. She continues her responsibilities as the home-based athletic trainer, overseeing the golf team and assisting other staff members with sport coverage and injury rehabilitation. Her other duties include administrative responsibilities and post-season event coverage. She has been a member of the staff at Tennessee since 1994, serving as a graduate assistant and intern assistant. Johnson graduated from Guilford College in 1994 with a degree in sports medicine, received her master's degree in sports psychology from UT in 1997. The Thomasville, N.C., native resides in Maryville, Tenn., with her husband, Tyler, and their daughter, Mara.
Renee Hendershot, MS, ATC - Assistant Athletic Trainer

Renee Hendershot begins her second year with the Lady Vols, primarily working with the softball program.
Renee came from the University of California, Riverside where she worked predominantly with the Women's Basketball and Tennis programs as well as the Track & Field team. While at UCR she was responsible for the student internship program.
In 2008 Renee earned her Masters in kinesiology, with a concentration in sport management from California Baptist University. During that time she was the head athletic trainer at Centennial High School, working with the 2007 state championship football program and also reestablished the student athletic training aide program. Prior to that Renee worked at an outreach clinic in Columbus, Ohio where she was an assistant(Central Crossing H.S.) and head athletic trainer(Watkins Memorial H. S.).
Renee graduated from The Ohio State University in 2004 with a degree in athletic training and was part of the first accredited program at the university. While at OSU she worked with the football, women's tennis, cheerleading and track & field programs and also participated in the quiz bowl team and mentor program.
Abe Kiggins, MS, ATC - Assistant Athletic Trainer

Abe Kiggins is starting his seventh year with the Lady Vols and will continue working with the cross country/track & field teams. In his spare time, Kiggins treats elite level runners, such as Olympians Hazel Clark, Jearl Miles-Clark and DeeDee Trotter and U.S. champion Treniere Clement. He traveled with Trotter to the 2006 and 2007 USA Outdoor Championships, where she won silver and gold, respectively, and to the 2008 U.S. Olympic Trials (bronze) and Olympic Games (semifinalist) in Beijing. Kiggins graduated from the University of West Florida with a bachelor's degree in exercise science/athletic training. While at UWF, Kiggins worked with the men's and women's soccer teams and the baseball and softball teams. He also covered football and a variety of other sports through local high schools and interned with the Pensacola Pelicans baseball organization. Kiggins earned his master's degree in sport psychology at UT in May 2007.

- Her husband, Brad, is the Assistant Director of Facilities at UT and they have a daughter, Mason Kaleigh, who is 7 months.
Julie Hallums is in her first year as an Administrative Assistant in the Lady Vols Athletic Training Room. Hallums graduated from UT in 2005 with a degree in History and minor in Psychology. While at UT, Julie worked as a Student Athletic Trainer with Football and Men's Tennis Teams. Her husband, Brad, is the Assistant Director of Facilities at UT and they have a daughter, Mason Kaleigh, who is 7 months.
Graduate Assistants
Kelly Lyon, MS, ATC, Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer
Kelly Lyon is in her second season working with the University of Tennessee track & field and cross country programs. The certified athletic trainer (LAT, ATC) is a 2010 graduate of the University of North Florida with a bachelor of science degree in athletic training. The native of Jacksonville, Fla., has experience working with baseball, football, softball, track & field and volleyball athletes, and spent time treating the Big Orange novice rowers during the fall of 2010. In addition to her work with the Vols and Lady Vols, Lyon is pursuing a master's degree in sport psychology at UT.
Skylar Kempel, ATC, Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer
Skylar Kempel is a first-year graduate assistant for the Lady Vols Athletic Training Department and will be working with the swimming & diving team. Kempel earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Athletic Training from the University of Illinois in May of 2011. At Illinois, Skylar worked with men's and women's gymnastics, men's and women's cross country, track and field, women's volleyball and football. Kempel also gained experience with the Tolono Unity High School football team. He is a Lena, IL native and is pursuing a Master of Science Degree in Sport Management at UT.
Veronica Carmazzi, ATC, Intern
Veronica Carmazzi is in her third year as a graduate assistant with the Lady Vols Athletic Training Department and will be working with the rowing team. Carmazzi earned her bachelor's degree in kinesiology with an emphasis in athletic training in May of 2008 at San Diego State University. At SDSU Carmazzi worked with women's volleyball and water polo, and men's lacrosse, rugby, soccer and football. After graduation, Veronica was the head athletic trainer at Pleasant Grove High School, and a strength coach at Results Physical Therapy and Training Center in her hometown of Sacramento, CA. Carmazzi is currently pursuing a master's degree in Sports Psychology at UT.
Deanna Palatucci, ATC, Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer
Deanna Palatucci is a second-year graduate assistant for the Lady Vols Athletic Training Department and will be working with the tennis team. Palatucci earned her Bachelor of Science degree in kinesiology with an athletic training emphasis from Penn State University in May 2010. During her time at Penn State, Palatucci worked with the women's lacrosse, men's soccer, and men's/women's gymnastics teams as well as the State College Area High School football team. She is a Williamstown, NJ native and is pursuing a master of science degree in sport management at UT.
Stephanie Schwertner, ATC, Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer
Stephanie Schwertner is in her second year as a graduate assistant with the Lady Vols Athletic Training Department and will be working with Volleyball. Schwertner is a 2009 graduate of Ashland University in Ohio, where she earned here bachelors degree Athletic Training. At Ashland Stephanie worked with women's soccer, softball, wrestling, football, men's basketball, men's and women's track and field, men's and women's swimming and diving, and at a local high school. After graduation Stephanie held an internship position at the United States Naval Academy where she worked with the football and men's lacrosse teams. Stephanie is currently pursuing a masters degree is Sport Psychology at UT.
