ALUMNI TRAINERS
January 2003
Dear Alumni,
Greetings from the Lady Vol Athletic Training Room. Since the new year began, the athletic training room is at full speed getting the athletes ready for their competitive seasons. Every sport is preparing to compete at the highest level for SEC's and NCAA's. In addition to the athletes preparing for competition, the athletic training room has made some changes that would be of some interest to you.
Staffing changes have occurred. We are very excited about the addition of Kristen Martin, MSW as the Coordinator of Team ENHANCE. The program has grown rapidly and Kristen has already made a significant impact. Several GA's have moved on to the real world: Melissa Beausoleil, ATC is an Assistant Athletic Trainer at the University of Maine; Christy Rodenbeck, ATC is employed at Bryan College in Dayton TN as an Athletic Trainer/Instructor; and, Catherine "CeCe" English is completing her PhD at UT, she will be finished in December. Three new GA's have filled their shoes: Michele Eckes, ATC comes from High Point University and is working with the Rowing team; Tim Lentych, ATC comes from Ball State University is covering Swimming & Diving; and, Melissa Montgomery, ATC who traveled all the way from the University of Pacific to take care of the Cheerleaders and Softball team.
Our donor wall, which was created to honor those who have invested in our facility and services, continues to be updated. The "Wall of Champions" has four levels of contributions which are tax deductible and count as University gift credit:
- Bronze $1-99
- Silver $100-4,999
- Gold $5,000-14,999
- Platinum $15,000 and above
If you are interested in joining the many others who have already donated, this can be your way of giving and directly supporting Lady Vol Athletic Training. Please make your check payable to UT Women's Athletics, and write Athletic Training Room Development Fund (ATRD) on the memo line. Send your contribution to:
Jenny Moshak, ATC
Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine
117 Stokley Athletics Center
Knoxville, TN 37996
We appreciate your support and glad you are investing in the future of Lady Vol Athletic Training.
Due to the new NATA certification process, the number of student athletic trainers here at UT are dwindling in numbers. We now have 19 SATs, and the numbers are expected to be even lower next year. This lack of student help has been apparent in training room duties and sport coverage. We are working with the Exercise Science Department on innovative ways to attract the new student athletic trainer to our program and with the Women's Athletic Department Administration on increasing financial aid for our students. If you would like to help current and future student athletic trainers pursue their career goals you may designate your gift to be added to the student athletic training scholarship fund.
Well, we hope this gives you a little insight into what is going on in the Lady Vol Athletic Training Department. We will produce this newsletter annually in order for you to stay abreast of what is happening in your "old stomping grounds." If you have not seen the new athletic training room and are ever in the area, please feel free to stop by and take a look at all of the improvements. You can also see the current staff or take a virtual tour on the Lady Vol home page under sports medicine (http://utladyvols.fansonly.com/ot/sportsmed.html).
Sincerely,
Lady Vol Athletic Training Staff
